This is a dessert recipe I tied today...it was sooooo good! It was made in three parts. Part one was the egg yolk, brown sugar and butter. Part two was the condensed milk, butter and vanilla. Part three was the chocolate chips and the pecans. I was so surprised at how this came out. This gets a smiley face too! If you would like this recipe for this or any other dish I have made let me know and I will leave it in the comments for you. Thanks for looking, reading and have a wonderfully Blessed Night.
I think they were walnuts...not pecans...lol. :0)
Okay, I've been asked about these at church so here is the recipe I used to make them.
ReplyDeleteToffee Squares
3/4 cup butter
1 egg yolk
2 TBsp. butter
1/4 tsp. salt
1 12oz. package of semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup almond, pecan or walnut pieces
3/4 cup backed brown sugar
1 1/2 cups flour (all-purpose)
1 14oz. can sweetened condensed milk
2 tsp. vanilla
Grease a 13x9x2 inch baking pan. In a large mixing bowl beat the 3/4 cup butter and brown sugar with an electric mixer on medium to high speed until combined. Add egg yolk, beat well. Stir in flour and salt, mix well. With floured hands press dough into prepared pan. Bake at 350 oven about 20 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer pan to wire rack.
For filling, in a heavy medium saucepan heat condenced milk and the 2 TBsps butter over medium heat until bubbly stirring constantly. Cook and stir for 5 more minutes. Mixture will thicken and become smooth. Stir in vanilla. Spread filling over baked layer. Bake at 350 over 12 to 15 minutes more or until top layer is golden brown. Sprinkle baked layers with chocolate evenly over baked layer. Sprinkle with almonds, pecans or walnut pieces. Let cook, cover, chill until chocolate sets. Cut into squares. Store covered in refrigerator. Makes 24 bars.
